Random Anime Handle Generator

Animal and fusion names are pulled from real Japanese vocabulary (JMdict, JLPT community word lists). IRL Names come from publicly available Japanese given-name and surname registries. Shrine/temple names are real cultural sites in Japan. See the ATTRIBUTIONS.md for full data-source credits.

The Fusion tab pairs a word from your language with a Japanese word. Type any word into the input field (or leave it blank to use a random word from the page-language word bank). Every page has its own language: English on the English page, Dutch on the Dutch page, German on the German page, Spanish on the Spanish page, French on the French page, Portuguese on the Portuguese page, and Polish on the Polish page. The Japanese side stays the same regardless of your input — it pulls from the same animal/nature/cool/vocab-as-name pool as before. All format options (CamelCase, spaced, hyphen, underscore, lowercase, piped) work the same way. There is no Hindi or Tagalog fusion option in the UI — users viewing the site in those locales get the same English fusion experience.

Yes. We don't output any specific anime character names, fan-wiki names, or names associated with particular fictional characters. All output is generated from real Japanese language and culture. You should still do a quick search for the name you pick to make sure it doesn't accidentally collide with a famous character in your specific fandom.

There's nothing stopping you. We don't claim or register any of the generated names, and we don't run live availability checks. If you want a name as a handle, copy it and search it on the platform yourself — that way you get a definitive yes/no without us burning the platform's rate limits or accidentally checking against an account that has the name reserved but is invisible to us.

By design. We're not building a trope-based tool because (a) the IP risk on archetype-specific names is higher than we want, and (b) the four generators below already cover the patterns that make a name feel "anime" without copying any specific series. The vibe is in the sound, not the label.

The Mythology tab pulls from three real Japanese cultural sources, selectable via the "Source" dropdown:

⛩️ Shrines & temples — real Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples (Ise Jingu, Fushimi Inari, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, etc.) used as standalone names or paired with a given name.

👹 Mythological figures — real yokai, Shinto deities, Four Symbols, and legendary heroes (Suzaku, Orochi, Inari, Tamamo, Bishamon, Kintaro, etc.) drawn from the Kojiki, Nihon Shoki, and Wikipedia.

⚔️ Martial terms — real Japanese martial arts terminology and warrior titles (Kensei, Samurai, Katana, Budo, Kengo, etc.).

All entries are real cultural references from Japanese history, mythology, and martial tradition — historical/mythological figures and real cultural sites, not derived from any specific copyrighted character or modern franchise.

Yes. The IRL Names tab has a gender selector with three options: boy (masculine given names + surnames), girl (feminine given names + surnames), and any (mixed). All names are real Japanese given names and family names pulled from public registries, not anime-specific. For a female anime character, pick "girl"; for a male anime OC, pick "boy".

Yes to all three. For a real Japanese name (given name, family name, or both), the IRL Names tab pulls from public given-name and surname registries. For an anime character name, any of the four tabs works — pick the one whose flavor matches your character's setting. For a short anime nickname or handle-friendly form, the Cute tab with a short suffix (-chan, -maru, -kun) and the "lowercase" or "CamelCase" format option gives you handles like "konekomaru" or "YukiKitsune".

Not as labeled categories — the site is IP-safe by design, so we don't use franchise-specific labels. But the patterns those names follow are all covered: the Mythology tab + Martial source gives you saiyan-style / shonen-warrior / hero-academy names (Kensei, Tetsukage, Akatsuki, etc.); the Mythology tab + Figures source gives you demon-hunter / cursed-energy / sorcerer-style names (yokai, oni, and Shinto deities that read like supernatural hunters); the Fusion tab with a strong-vibe word + Japanese word gives you isekai-protagonist and pirate-crew-style compound names (ShadowKitsune, IronOnikiri, KaidoYuki, etc.). Use the "Strong" or "Dark" vibe filter in Fusion for the closest match.

Yes — the Cute tab is exactly that. It pulls from real Japanese words for animals, nature, plants, weather, and gentle imagery (cat 猫, sakura 桜, yuki 雪, momo 桃, etc.) and pairs them with kawaii-friendly suffixes like -chan and -maru. If you want a kawaii name, click the Cute tab, pick "Cute" or "Kawaii" suffix, and hit Generate.

Yes — the IRL Names tab pulls from the 100 most common Japanese surnames (Sato, Suzuki, Takahashi, Tanaka, Watanabe, etc., ranked by current Japanese government frequency data). For an anime clan name, try the Mythology tab with Source = Shrines, which produces compound names like "Fushimi Akihiko" that read like clan or house names. For something more invented, the Fusion tab with a strong Japanese word input gives you compound names that feel like clan names.

If you mean "a name generator for weebs/otaku, built by someone who actually cares about Japanese accuracy" — yes. The data sources are real Japanese (JMdict, public given-name registries, Shinto shrine lists, Kojiki / Nihon Shoki mythology), the kanji is real, the hiragana is real, the romaji is the standard Hepburn romanization. Nothing is auto-generated gibberish or a stylization of an English word.
